Alma Borja is the Program Manager of Karen’s House Emergency Shelter at Family Services of Tulare County. She has proudly served women and children affected by domestic violence for over 8 years, focused on families and individuals working through trauma and life changes. Her role in the agency has transitioned from on-call Rape Crisis Counselor to Bilingual Rape Victim advocate, Bilingual Domestic Violence Case Manager and Domestic Violence Program Coordinator to now leading the agency’s Domestic Violence Program. In this capacity, Alma oversees project operations and coordinates trainings and collaborative opportunities. Extending her commitment to anti-violence work, Ms. Borja is a proud member of the Violence against Women Committee of Soroptimist International of Visalia, an international service organization working to improve the lives of women across the globe.
Alma holds an associate’s degree in Human Services and a California sexual assault crisis counselor certification. She hopes to soon obtain her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an Organizational Leadership emphasis. Alma is happily married to her long time sweetheart and enjoys traveling to Colorado, exercising, dancing, and renovating her grandma’s Mexican dishes.
