Sarah Khan

Manager, B.E.S.T.

As the Program Director at Maitri, Sarah Khan acts as the liaison between the staff and clients on one hand and the executive board and community on the other. She joined Maitri in 2004 as the Program Coordinator, starting with direct client interaction before taking her current position in 2006. Khan also serves on the Santa Clara County’s Domestic Violence Council as a Commissioner. Prior to Maitri, she worked with Unified New Cassel Community Revitalization Corporation (UNCCRC) as Community Outreach Director.

Volunteering and advocating for survivors of domestic violence at the Islamic Center of Long Island, Khan is multilingual and multicultural. With a BA in History, MA in Political Science and a Masters in Philosophy in International Relations, she is fluent in various South Asian Languages including Urdu, Hindi, Kashmiri and Tamil. Residing with her family in Willow Glen, CA, Khan also volunteers with the Kashmir Education Initiative (KEI), bringing education and hope to the war torn region of Kashmir.

The 18 months spent as Cohort One gave me a community of peers, friends, and an introspective look at my own strengths. This in turn lead to me being an energized leader, who brought back tools and knowledge to my organization- tools and trainings that we as a small agency could not afford to send staff on. Being a part of SFP saved me from an early burn out and I recognize that and would like to thank the SPF for that.
